    Email Updates

One of the primary methods of contact in an online course is email. Your college is capable of extracting student names and email addresses from our registration system. The purpose of extracting this information is two fold. The information will be used by the instructor to remain in contact with the class in order to provide information necessary for the students' academic success. The information will also be used to send emails to the students from the college administration. The emails sent by the college administration will consist of links to course surveys which will be used to improve our online courses, important announcements for students, and links to college surveys, which will be used to satisfy requirements placed on the college by the California Community College Chancellor's Office. The college will not use this information to advertise any products and will not share student email addresses with any other organization.

In the box below type the following information:

As a student I understand it is my responsibility to ensure my email address is up to date in the registration system, and that failure to do so can seriously impact my ability to successfully complete my courses. Further, I consent to receive email communication from my instructor and from the college administration. This consent will remain in force until it is revoked in writing or I am no longer taking classes with the college. Upon submitting the syllabus, I agree to enter the registration system, check my email address and change it if necessary. I understand a tutorial is available to assist me with this procedure. I also understand I can contact 760-252-2411 x7236 to receive additional assistance if I encounter any difficulties when attempting to change my email address.

    On-Campus Meetings & Proctor Statement:

There will be one on-campus meeting for the final exam. If you cannot attend the exam on-campus, you will have to find an instructor approved proctor, for example, a librarian, or educational officer, and an approved site, such as a library or educational center, to take the exam. Friends or family members are not suitable proctors. Proctor information must be received by the end of the second week of class.

    Homework/Quiz Problems:

You will be required to complete a problem(s) each week. The problem(s) are not to be submitted. Instead, you will be asked specific questions concerning the problem(s) on the weekly quizzes. Your textbook has problems located at the end of each chapter-A-series and B-Series. You will be assigned the following B-series questions:

Both exams will be open-book, open-note. The exams can be accessed one time only. Answers to the midterm and the final exams are not released. More information concerning exams will be released in the course announcements.

    Discussion Questions:

Each week you will complete a discussion prompt or question, except during week 9. There will be two prompts during the weeks in which we cover two chapters. Posting to the discussion board is a requirement and is worth 5 points each week. In order to earn full credit, you must, at a minimum, post an original quality answer to the topic and respond to the posting of one of your classmates. Quality posts are not simple “yes” and “no” or “I agree” or “I disagree” type posts.  Quality posts will relate to the topic and add to the body of knowledge contained within the particular discussion. Only quality posts will receive the maximum point value each week. Feel free to share tasteful relevant stories or web links and articles. If you share web articles, be sure to cite your sources. Please be aware that I may not necessarily respond to all discussion board posts, but rest assured that I am aware of and have read your contributions. Please use spell check and be aware of proper grammar usage within the discussion area at all times. Profanity is not welcome in the discussion area and will not be tolerated, even in a humorous manner. Be respectful and accepting of diverse ideas and opinions. However, please feel free to appropriately state your difference of opinion.

I recommend that you participate in the class discussions on at least separate 3 days each week.
