Business Math Handbook and Study Guide (comes with the text).

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Credits: 3.00

Application of basic arithmetic to business transactions and activities. Improve computational skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) working number and word problems using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, interest, and equations to solve problems. Bank records, payroll, trade and cash discounts, markup, present value, consumer credit, depreciation, inventory, statements, insurance, taxes and stocks and bonds. Degree Applicable.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to perform with at least 80% accuracy in test situations and solve problems involving the following topics.
Discounts and Credit Terms, Markups and Markdowns, Payroll, Compound Interest and Present Value.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

Read the syllabus and abide with its contents.

Perform all eight (8) lesson plans, on time. Each lesson plan contains the following items:

Perform all 8 Quizzes on time

Perform Mid-term test cumulative for chapters 1 thru 7.

Final Exam cumulative for chapters 8 thru 12 (Proctored—Read the Proctor Statement)

Login to the course website at least twice a week to check the "Instructor Posting Area" for important announcements from your instructor.

E-mail the instructor whenever they face any difficulties in this class. Students should also reply to the instructor’s emails within 3 days. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the instructor’s emails are not blocked by their email systems.

Quizzes:

Eight (8) quizzes will be given. Students should take the quizzes by the due date. No make up quizzes will be given. The quizzes will be based on the material, topics, and questions given in the required textbook. The reading assignments, quizzes, and homework assignments are designed to prepare the student for the tests and final exam.

Homework Assignments:

Homework assignments are assigned in every lesson plan. Students are strongly encouraged to do the homework assignments to acquire a strong understanding of the lesson plan topics. The quizzes and exams do depend heavily on the homework problems. You will get full credit for the homework if you do the weekly posting.

Exams:

There will be two (2) exams. The Midterm should be done on-line following the fourth (4th) lesson and the Final will be proctored and taken following lesson eight (8).

Weekly Posting:

To receive credit for the weekly posting you must post before you do the quiz. To receive credit for the weekly posting each student will post the solution (complete with the work and process for solving) of a homework question not already submitted.

You may also receive credit for posting if you can propose a superior process or correction to someone else’s solution.

Grading will be based on:

Online Discussion (homework): 10 pts
8 Quizzes 40 pts
Midterm Exam: 25 pts
Final Exam: 25 pts
Total 100 pts

80 – 89% B
70 – 79% C
60 – 69% D
Below 60% F
