Child Development Department Welcome to the Barstow College – Child Development Department website! We have developed this website so that you can navigate your way through the Certificate Levels, Associate Degree, Courses, Instructors and the many resources that are available to college students. We believe that every person is a lifelong learner and we achieve this by taking classes, attending workshops or trainings, conferences and most importantly our personal experiences. Our society in which we live is often referred to as a melting pot of cultures. We are fortunate to live in an environment that embraces these diverse cultures. However, it’s important to understand the varying values and beliefs that each culture / ethnicity brings to the classroom. You are valued first as a unique individual and then validated for your efforts and skills that you have acquired and are willing to share with others. Our intent is to create an environment that embraces you the student as you enter the classroom door or online class that clearly states "You are welcome." We strive to instill in our students a passion for learning and in pursuing a career in the early childhood field. The early childhood field is constantly changing and new research indicates how very little we really know about the brain and how the development of the brain impacts a child. Research indicates that early intervention is vital in providing young children with the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential.
