Paper Format Guidelines
Below are guidelines on properly formatting your papers. For this course, you will use MLA format for all papers.
A sample MLA formatted paper is available in the Instructor’s Posting area to use as a guide.
Paper Guidelines:
When you type your paper, you should be using Times New Roman font, regular 12
point, double-spaced text, and 1 inch margins top/bottom/left/right.
Please include a MLA format heading at the start of your paper. The heading
includes your name, instructor name, course title and date.
Length: approximately 3-4 double-spaced typed pages (This should be about 1000
words.)
It is mandatory that any assignment you submit for this course is your own work.
If you do use other sources, you must use parenthetical citations and the works
cited page to give credit to your sources. Any and all assignments may be
checked for plagiarism. Plagiarized work receives an automatic zero and
automatic failure for the entire course.
Once your essay is saved and ready for grading, use copy & paste to place the
essay in the submittal boxes by the due date on the front page of the course.
Even though you may format your paper properly, the submittal
boxes sometimes undo the formatting. I will not take off any points for this.
However, be sure to use your ENTER/RETURN key on text in the submittal boxes to
create blank line spaces between paragraphs.
The submittal boxes will mess with some of your formatting and add some garbage
characters to your paper. The webmaster knows of this, and the instructor will
not penalize your work for these types of errors.
However, MLA format of your paper is still very possible when you use the
submission boxes. You can have a heading, title, citations, works cited, line
breaks, paragraphing, indentions, bolding, italicizing, underlining, and a
variety of other styles. Obviously, there is no need for page numbers in the
submission boxes, since the paper comes in one email.
