Meet your Instructor: Mr. Perez

My name is Douglas Perez and I am your instructor for ETHN/01. My BA is in psychology and my masters is in education. I'm working on a second masters degree in Humanities and Literature at American Public University (online). I began teaching in a K-12 environment in 1996, teaching 6th grade regular education. Within a few years I settled on a continuation high school campus and I really enjoy going to work. As for post-secondary instruction I teach for Barstow Community College Online in the area of diversity. At University of Phoenix I am a freshman orientation instructor. I also teach regularly at DeVry University Online-------introduction to humanities.

In 2010 I started consulting for health firms in the area of contract acquisition. Prior to being an instructor I was a video producer for software developers producing sales and training videos from LA to NY.

MY STUDENT ONLINE EXPERIENCE

I completed my masters at National University and finished my last 5 courses online. This was a great experience for me. The most enjoyable thing about completing course work online is being able to work at your own pace. Driving to a lecture is very painful and when you consider paying for it hurts worse! As a student and instructor I really try to turn in work early so I am not always up against deadlines. With this learning and teaching online is fun and convenient.

PERSONAL LIFE

Personally speaking I live in Riverside, CA which is only 70 minutes east from LA. I have a wife and two adopted children (Hannah born - 04' and Gabby born - 06') and life is very good for me. I met my wife while online dating at matchmaker.com in 2001. My wife Beth, has her masters also. She is an Inclusion Specialist for Riverside Unified (working in special education). When I am off-track I fly back east to visit Beth's family in the New England states OR RV along the California coast. Had a great trip in Alaska summer of 2010!
