Position Paper
Submit your paper as a word document attached to an email. If you have trouble attaching the document, copy and paste your document into the body of the email.
Paper is due no later than Midnight by date on the homepage of the course!!!
Topic
The paper is to consist of your position (how you believe, how you feel) on a controversial health issue of your choice. There are some suggestions listed below, however, your choice need not be confined to the list. YOU MUST RECEIVE INSTRUCTOR APPROVAL ON ANY TOPIC WHETHER THE TOPIC IS LISTED OR NOT. Although the topics below are listed as possible topics, the instructor desires students to submit a variety of opinions on a variety of topics. For example, if there are 20 students wanting to write on abortion, only 4 of these students will be approved. It is recommended that each student consider no less than THREE possible topics. Remember, the topic must be controversial in nature.
Content and Format:
The following outline should be followed when writing your paper
| 10 pts | Opening paragraph(s) - The topic should clearly be explained and identified, as if the instructor knows nothing about the topic. Explanation of terms, examples of topic, and any other defining characteristics of topic. |
| 10 pts | Body of Paper - Your PERSONAL thoughts and feelings on subject matter. How do you feel about the given topic? Are you in favor or against or in between? |
| 10 pts | Body of Paper - Why do you feel the way you do? Use personal experience to explain why or utilize and cite research which supports your feelings. |
| 10 pts | Body of Paper – Explore how or why others may feel differently than yourself. Explore why they feel differently, whether you agree with them or not. |
| 10 pts | Conclude with a definitive view point and how your feelings have evolved or could possible evolve or change in the past, present, or future. |
How long does it have to be???
The topic must be covered in such a manor where each of the above areas are well explored. If you can sufficiently explore each area in 2 pages, so be it. If you need 10 pages to be conclusive in your opinions, that if fine too. The most important thing is to cover each area of the paper.
