Taylor Puryear was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma in 1952 and moved to California in 1955. He graduated from Huntington Beach High School in 1971.

He has been teaching about exercise science and sports since receiving his BS in Physical Education and BA in Business from Vangaurd University (Costa Mesa, CA) in 1976. Taylor did his graduate work at CSUF and was granted an MS in Physical Education/Athletic Training in 1986.That same year he received his certification in Athletic Training from the National Athletic Trainers Association. Taylor has also been a Red Cross Instructor for over 25 years.

Taylor has taught at Vangaurd University 1974-1996, Orange Coast Community College 1982-83, Phillips University 1996-1998, Northwestern Oklahoma State University 1998-2001 and CSUDH 2001-2002. He had the privilege of being hired at Barstow in 2004 as an Instructor/Athletic Trainer.

Taylor enjoys racquet ball, bicycling, hiking and fishing in his spare time.

Taylor Puryear believes learning is a life long experience. He enjoys teaching and learning with students because he believes teaching and learning are a two way street. When either teaching or learning become a one way street, neither teaching nor learning take place. He thinks that while teaching you, you are also teaching him and that both of you are learning from each other.
